Teaching Center for Fundamental Courses

    Established in 2000, the Basic Courses Teaching Center stands as an institution at college level to teach basic courses of all colleges and departments at OUC. It has five teaching and research departments including Department of Social Sciences, Department of Education, Department of Physical Education, Department of Art as well as Teaching and Research Office of Military Affairs. The Center currently has more than 140 faculty members, including 21 professors and 27 associate professors. It offers three B.A.programs, namely, Education Technology, Music Performance and Sports Training, with almost 400 registered undergraduate students in the above-mentioned programs. There are also such M.A. programs as Theory of Marxism, Ideological and Political Education, Theory of Sports Training, as well as Physical Education and Sports Training with more than 20 enrolled postgraduate students in these graduate programs.
    The Department of Physical Education boasts its strong track and field, volleyball, basketball and table tennis teams, and it is also proud of its forty-niners sailboat team which is at the national level, which is preparing for and will take part in the 2008 Olympic Games on behalf of P.R.China. Both the forty-niners sailboat team and women’s beach volleyball team of OUC are advantageous, since both have won great honors for China and for OUC in quite a few international competitions.
    The Department of Art has set up a symphony orchestra since its establishment two years ago and has successfully held New Year’s Symphony Concert in 2007. Every student in this department is required to hold a concert at least once a year.
