The School of Law
The School of Law accommodates three established departments---Department of Law, Department of Social Work and Department of Labor and Social Security. Consisting of undergraduate programs in Law, Social Work and Social Security, the School of Law has authority in awarding a Degree of Master in Sociology. It currently boasts two research centers--- Research Center for Social Jurisprudence and Research Center for Social Work. In the meantime, the School trains postgraduates (in-service) associating with the Capital University of Economics and Business. With a faculty of 80 members, it has 30 professors and associate professors, 3 part-time professors, 40 tutors holding Doctor's or Master's Degrees. At present, over two thousand students are studying at the school. A good number of graduates have become high ranking governmental officials, judges, and elites in various trades. Furthermore, a large quantity of graduates take further education abroad, such as the USA, Germany, Singapore, Japan, etc. Many students have gained awards in such competition as “Challenge Cup”.
Emphasizing the informational construction, the School of Law develops advanced education equipment, including the Lab of OA Simulation, Lab of Social Work, and Simulating Court . Moreover, the school possesses an independent library with more than twenty thousand books, hundreds of kinds of journals and newspapers, and some audio visual materials and teaching software.
The school attaches importance to teaching work, and thinks much of the development of teaching and an academic atmosphere. “Serving as excellent teachers, and teaching excellent courses” is the maxim of teachers; “Setting up splendid academic atmosphere, and acting as outstanding talents” is the motto of students. The school, as well, opens dozens of selective courses, including subjects of “law”, “psychology”, and “sociology” and so on, for all students of the University. Professors of the school have gained the award of “Outstanding Teaching Achievements” conducted by Shandong People's Government in 2001.
The School of Law attaches great importance to research programs. With profound professional experiences, the teaching staff develops wide academic activities. So far, they have published over eight hundred academic articles in various academic journals and magazines, such as Journal of Peking University and Social Science Front , etc. Over 60 textbooks and monographs have been published, many of which are reprinted by other magazines, periodicals and journals, including Xinhua Digest and Printing Materials of the People's University of China and so on. During the recent years, the school has successively undertaken 20 academic and research projects supported nationally, provincially and by the ministry, gaining over 20 awards, including the first prize of “Outstanding Achievements of Social Science” of Shandong Province . Those research achievements contribute dramatically to the economic and social development. The academic research of the school concentrates on the fields of Social Jurisprudence, Constitution and Administrative Law, Theories of Community, Net of Assistance and Support for Social Security and Weakness Groups, etc.
The School of Law pays much attention to academic exchange and communication with other universities and colleges both at home and abroad. We have successfully established academic association with the University of Wisconsin , the University of Toronto , and the Hong Kong University of Science & Technologies. In addition, with the view of promoting academic and research level of faculty members, the school often invites prominent scholars to give lectures, while sending some faculty members to the University of Zhongshan, China University of Political Science and Law and the Hong Kong University of Science & Technologies to take courses for Doctor's and Master's Degrees.
