The Graduation Ceremony of the Singapore Maritime Offices’ Union (SMOU)/Wavelink Maritime College

On behalf of DMU, Vice President Liu Zhengjiang expressed hearty congratulations to the graduates. He said that DMU enjoys a high reputation internationally as an excellent center of maritime education and training as recognized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The university has educated more than 100,000 professionals in maritime fields. They have become the backbones of the marine shipping industry. The university has also educated and trained more than 4,000 overseas students and professionals for more than 70 countries and regions. In March 2005, the MSc Program in Maritime Safety and Environmental Management, jointly run by WMU and DMU was inaugurated. This further enhances the University’s level of international academic cooperation. 

SMOU in choosing DMU as a training school is an example of the high recognition of our training level and quality. The university also tried its best to provide the students with a harmonious and pleasant environment. At the same time, this program was also a precious chance for mutual study and improvement. DMU encouraged our teachers of marine majors to watch and study the teaching methods employed in the program.

SMOU’s arrangement for the training content was compact and reasonable. The program not only taught the navigation courses systematically, explained the practical operation of ships patiently, interpreted the international rules amply, but also cultivated the consciousness of culture, ethics, morals and teamwork. Through the training, the students have strengthened their understanding of the development of international shipping policies and improved the practical skills. In one word, the students have benefited a lot from this training. 

It is hoped that all of the graduates can march ahead with courage and determination and overcome all the difficulties.
