School of Economics and Management


The School of Economics and Management was founded on the base of Department of Economics, Department of Information Management and Institute of Economics in 2000.

At present, there are seven departments in the school, which are Economics, Finance,
International Economy & Trade,Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Accounting, E-business and Information Management. In addition, there are 9 institutes centered on Economics, Labor Economics, National Economy, Tertiary Industry Economy, Regional Economy, Human Resources Management, Modern Company Management, “Agriculture & Country & Farmer?and Urbanization, Library Science and Intelligence.

Owing to efforts of several generations, especially under the promotion of "211 Project", the school has realized a leaping development in many aspects such as subject construction, academic research, talent training, faculty construction, conditions creating, and has come into subject group with distinct characteristics and outstanding advantages. We have founded the first and the only postdoctoral research station of theoretic economics in Guangdong Province, and doctorate authorization spot of political economy and provincial key subject of political economy. There are also six authorization spots of master's degrees covering the fields of theoretic economics, applied economics and management, and eight undergraduate specialties. The school has come into a comparatively integrated economics and management subject talent training systems of bachelor, master, doctor, and post doctorate. It is also a very important academic and talent-training base of economics and management in South China.

Our school possesses a vigorous teaching and research team with reasonable structure of age and knowledge. There are 113 teaching staffs with 9 doctoral supervisors, 19 professors, 30 associate professors, among which 9 have been selected as talent training candidates of Guangdong provincial “thousand-hundred-ten project? And there are 31 teachers having doctor's degree, more than 20 teachers are studying for their doctorate degrees on the job. Among the young and middle-aged teachers there are more than 95% owning doctorate or master's degree. Furthermore we have engaged domestic and foreign famous experts and scholars as part-time or guest professors from Harvard University, Cornell University, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Renmin University of China, Wuhan University, etc.

There are 1779 students in the school with 1567 undergraduates, 197 postgraduates for master's degree and 15 postgraduates for doctorate. According to the talent training pattern of “thick foundation, wide requirements and high-quality? we persistently aim at training creative talents, optimizing specialty structure, deepening the teaching reform, and exerting to train senior professionals with solid theoretical foundation, profound specialty knowledge, pioneering & innovative spirit and practice capacity. We have brought up a large number of talents at all levels that are welcomed by various circles of the society.
The teachers and students are pursuing the academy meticulously. Under the promotion of ?11 Project? plentiful academic achievements have been made in many fields and a series of significant achievements have aroused a wide effect on the society. The achievements made as the key subject construction of the ?11 Project?in “the Ninth-Five Plan?have been checked and accepted as excellent by the national, provincial and school levels of expert team. Now all the staff and students are greeting a new opportunity and challenge with enthusiasm, rigorous and practical attitude and ceaselessly innovative spirit.
