Faculty of History and Culture
The Faculty of History and Culture is out of the History Department of the South China University, which was founded in 1951. It has trained and brought up many qualified historical teachers and researchers during the past decades. There are numbers of excellent teachers in the Faculty. Among the 39 full-time teachers there are 20 professors, 11 associate professors, and 8 lecturers. And among the professors there are 6 who have the qualification to supervise doctoral candidates. Of the faculty there are 25 teachers who have got or will get the doctoral degree. In addition, there are 8 administrators in the Faculty.
There are 4 teaching and research sections in the Faculty, the respective majors of which are Ancient Chinese History, Modern Chinese History, World History, and Pedagogics for Middle School History Teaching. Furthermore, there are some specific institutes in the Faculty such as the Institute of the Ancient Chinese History, the Institute of the Literature and History of South China, and the Institute of Religious Cultures. In addition, there are some related organs in the Faculty such as the library and the museum.
Every year the Faculty admits full-time students as undergraduates of history. In the majors such as Ancient Chinese History, Modern Chinese History, World History, Cultural History, Courses and Pedagogics, and Disciplinary Education for History, the Faculty admits postgraduates. And in the major of Ancient Chinese History the Faculty admits doctoral candidates.
There are prominent professors or specialists in the Faculty. They have achieved great successes in the respective majors. In the past three years over 40 of their research works were published by the famous publishing houses in China, such as Zhong Hua Book Company, People's Publishing House, Social Sciences Academic Press, and China Social Sciences Press. Furthermore, the teachers of the Faculty published many influential research papers in the most important journals in China, such as Social Sciences in China, Historical Research, Journal of Chinese Historical Studies, Modern Chinese History Studies, and World History, etc. In addition, in the past three years and now the teachers of the Faculty presided or are presiding over 12 important research programs which are of state level or province level, and they got 17 rewards of the same levels mentioned above.
