School of MathematicsThe School of Mathematics is one of the oldest and largest schools of South China Normal University. The mission of the School is to develop and support teaching and research of high quality, principally in disciplines supported by the School’s four departments, Department of Mathematics, Department of Financial Mathematics and Financial Engineering, Department of Information and Computing Sciences, Department of Probability and Statistics and the one research institute, the Mathematics and Applied Mathematics Research Institute. Among them the discipline of pure mathematics is the Guangdong Province key discipline, and the specialty of mathematics and applied mathematics is a prestigious one in the colleges and universities of Guangdong Province. The School of Mathematics has a highly qualified and experienced faculty, and an active research program with regular seminars, workshops and conferences. The main interests for both teaching and research currently lie in the areas of algebra, topology and dynamic systems, the theory of functions, differential equations, partial differential equations, financial mathematics and mathematical statistics, combinatorics, computational mathematics, and mathematics education. In these areas, the School academics maintain a national reputation for their research excellence. The School academics are engaged in a wide range of research projects including National Key Projects and National Basic Research Program (973), and granted funding from a wide range of sources including National Natural Science Foundation of China, Guangdong Natural Science Foundation, PhD Foundation, Research Foundation for the Doctoral Program, Ministry of Education Foundation. The School edits and publishes two academic journals: High School Mathematics Study and Southeast Asian Bulletin of Mathematics. The School of Mathematics has excellent educational facilities; the School Laboratory has more than 300 computers.
