Visa

Visa and the Residence Permit are complicated. It is advised that you read the following details carefully or contact the Foreign Affairs Office to make sure that there is no problem with your visa and your residence permit during your stay at SCNU.

1. International students with X visa should bring their passports, Health Certificate, Admission Notice, and Temporary Accommodation Form for Foreigners, Photos and the Certificate issued by SCNU to the Police Station for the application of the Residence Permit. It is legal to stay in China only after you have the valid Residence Permit.

2. If there is any change in your Residence Permit, you should contact the Police Station within the designated time limit for the new change or renewal. Anyone who fails to do so will result in penalty.

3. Within the validity of the F visa, those who need to go back to their home country or travel to other countries or to China’s Hong Kong, Macao, should contact the Foreign Affairs Office for the permission within 10 working days. Then go to the Office for Foreigner Affairs at the Police Station to apply for the re-entry visa.

4. A fine will be imposed on those who fail to renew their visas or residence permits before their expiration. No alteration of or damages to the visa or other official certificates are permissible. Violation of the rules will result in penalty.

Visa and Registration

1.Visa application
Students under Chinese Government Scholarship Program should apply for visa to study in China at the Chinese embassy or consulate-general with the original documents and one set of photocopies of the Admission Notice, Visa Application for Study In China (JW201) and Foreigner Physical Examination Form and valid ordinary passport. Those whose study period in China is above 6 month needs to apply for "X" visa, and those who shall stay in China for less than 6 months (including 6 months) should apply for "F" visa. The scholarship students must enter China with the original copies of the above documents. Whoever comes to China with other types of passports, visas or without the original documents will not be able to register with the institution, nor will they be able to apply for residence permit in China.

2、Registration
International students must register with the institution at the time specified in the Admission Notice. Those who are unable to register on time must seek permission from the institution directly. Those who fail to register without the prior consent of the institution will be considered as voluntarily giving up the enrollment and the scholarship will automatically be withdrawn.

3、Health Verification and Residence Registration
Health verification: Scholarship holders who are to stay in China for more than 6 months are requested to bring their passports, Admission Notice, and the original copies of Foreigner Physical Examination Form and the Blood Test Report to the local quarantine office within the set time to have their medical examination verified. International students whose Foreigner Physical Examination Form do not meet the requirement will have to re-take medical examination. Those who refuse to re-take the medical examination or are diagnosed as suffering from diseases that are not permitted to enter China under the Chinese laws and regulations will be required to leave China.
Residence registration: After the health verification, the scholarship holders must apply for residence permit to the local police authority within 30 days on their arrival with their passports, Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201).

The costs of medical examination , the international travel and residence registration should be born by the international students themselves.

Medical Care

1.The new international students should go through health examination at the designated hospital upon arrival. Those who are not suitable for study because of illness are requested to return to their home country immediately.

2.The Chinese Government Full Scholarship students are given a Medical Treatment Card at the time of registration upon arrival at the university. With this card, they are entitled to public medical services at the designated hospitals and enjoy the same medical treatments as the Chinese students.

3.There is a hospital on the campus. When consulting a doctor, the patient shall register at the registry and pay the registration fee. The ordinary patient is expected to go to the school hospital during clinic hours for treatment. The emergency room is available around the clock for acute disease patients in need of immediate treatment.

4.Given prior permission from the doctor of the school hospital, the Chinese Government Full Scholarship students who need to consult doctors in an off-campus hospital may pay for the medical expenses themselves first and then, with the receipt, medical card and Campus IC card and so on, can claim for part of the compensation for the medical costs at the insurance company’s office stationed at the campus hospital. Without such prior permission, the student will have to bear all the fees him/herself. For hospitalization off-campus recommended by the doctor of the school hospital, the insurance company will bear a certain amount of fees for treatment, medicine and bed in accordance with the related regulations, while the students themselves pay the minor amount and all the board expenses. Without prior permission from the school hospital, all the charges for hospitalization will have to be borne by the student him/herself.

5.The Chinese Government Scholarship students should be responsible for the expenses on such items as dentures, glasses, abortion, nutriments, tonics and other medicines that cannot be applied for reimbursements according to the relevant regulations.

6.Anyone who violates the law and the regulations resulting in accidental injuries should be responsible for all the subsequent expenses incurred.

7.Self-funded students are responsible for any expenses on medical treatment, medicine and hospitalization.
Insurance

The international students must buy the medical insurance during their study at SCNU. The insurances include both the accidents and the hospitalization. The insurance is at the students’ own expenses.

International students can buy the insurance before or after coming to SCNU. The students should inquire the insurance company how to use the insurance in China and the contact information about the designated hospitals.

International students should present the insurance policy when registering at SCNU to show that he can enjoy the insurance service. It can be either in Chinese or in English.

International students should be responsible for any expenses on medical care or hospitalization if they do not buy the insurance.
