School of Asia-Pacific StudiesThe School of Asia-Pacific Studies, founded in 2007, focuses on the teaching and research of the international relations and politics of the Asia-Pacific region. It represents the latest undertaking in a long and storied tradition of Asian history studies at Sun Yat-sen University. In the early 1950s, a Sun Yat-sen University research team headed by Professor Chen Xujing, a famous sociologist and historian, established the university's reputation as a leading source of innovative academic research in the field of Southeast Asia studies. The School is proud to have an extraordinarily high-quality group of research and teaching staff. Professor Takeshi HAMASHITA, an internationally-honored scholar of the Asia-Pacific region, serves as Dean of the School and has dedicated himself to the establishment of a rigorous blue plan for cutting-edge research. Prominent members of the faculty include Professor Hong LIU, Chair and Director of the Centre for Chinese Studies and the Confucius Institute at the University of Manchester, who joins the School as a recent recipient of the prestigious Changjiang Eminent Scholar award. The School faculty consists of members from respected teaching and research entities of Sun Yat-sen University, including the Department of International Relations, the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, the Institute of Taiwan Studies, the Institute of Hong Kong and Macau Studies, the Institute of Korean Studies and the Center for American Studies.
