Shool of Mathematics and Computational Science

The faculty of mathematics and computational science in Sun Yat-sen University was established in July, 1997. It is built on the department of mathematics which started its functioning at 1924.

Currently, the school consists of department of mathematics, department of statistics, department of scientific computation and computer applications, together with an institute of mathematics and an institute of computational science and computer applications.

There are about 30 professors, 40 associate professors and 20 lecturers, who work as permanent members of the faculty, the number of faculty members increases every year in the last few years. Meanwhile, there are also several distinguished Chinese mathematicians from abroad, e.g., Shing-Tung Yau, who is associated with the faculty as guest professors.

The faculty strongly believes that only strong research mathematicians who simultaneously have a passion on teaching can offer good mathematical education with deep insight and understanding of both classical subjects and contemporary movements.
