1st SYSU Finance International Conference held in Zhuhai
The 1st SYSU Finance International Conference was held on May 26-27, 2018 in Zhuhai, Guangdong. The conference was co-funded by Sun Yat-sen University and Cornell University. The theme of the conference was “The Innovation and Research on the Theory of Corporate Finance under the Impact of International Financial Market”. Gathering over 60 scholars from top universities across the world, the conference created an international academic platform for scholars in the financial field to communicate.
The 1st SYSU Finance International Conference was held on May 26-27, 2018 in Zhuhai, Guangdong.
On the morning of May 26, Prof. Li Guangzhong and Prof. Roni Michaely addressed the opening ceremony. Prof. Li expressed his warm welcome. He pointed out that relying on the “Double First-Class” platform of Business Management discipline and Advanced Institute of Finance in Sun Yat-sen University, the academic influence of Finance discipline is gradually increasing. And it has offered important support in serving the national and local economic development, as a think tank. Prof. Michaely thanked the financial support from the Business School and Advanced Institute of Finance at Sun Yat-sen University. He encouraged the participants to engage in in-depth interactions and create collisions of thoughts.
During the conference, 10 famous finance scholars shared their latest research achievements. Prof. Xavier Giroud from Columbia University, Prof. Philip H. Dybvig from Washington University, Prof. Lin Chen from The University of Hong Kong, Prof. Michael Weber from The University of Chicago, Prof. Hyunseob Kim from Cornell University, Prof. Shimon Kogan from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Prof. Evgeny Lyandres from Boston University, Prof. Tian Xuan from Tsinghua University, Prof. Utpal Bhattacharya from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Prof. Roni Michaely from Cornell University were invited to deliver keynote speeches respectively.
Apart from the keynote speeches by internationally renowned scholars, young scholars also had the opportunity to present their papers in this international conference. 8 papers were selected from more than 80 submitted papers to report and discuss.
In the end, Prof. Roni Michaely made a concluding speech. He pointed out that the conference was held successfully and expressed great appreciation for the high-quality reports and discussions.
The successful convening of this conference has established a top exchange platform for scholars in finance field. Also, it contributes to increasing the international influence of SYSU’s Finance discipline, and is of great significance to the development of Chinese financial academic research.
