College of Electrical and Electronic EngineeringThe College of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (CEEE), Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is one of the best teaching and researching institutions of its kind in China. CEEE consists of seven Departments and a Center, which are Department of Electrical Machinery and Control Engineering, Department of Electrical Power Engineering, Department of Applied Electronic Engineering, Department of High Voltage Engineering, Department of Electrical Theory and New Technology, Department of Electrical Measurement Engineering, and a Center for Pulse High Magnetic Field. The undergraduate program includes Electrical Engineering and Automation. The main research areas and the graduate students fostering disciplines cover 5 sub-disciplines below the discipline of Electrical Engineering set up by the Academic Degree Coommittee of the State Council and other two specified sub-disciplines. They are Electrical Machinery and Apparatus, Power system and Its Automation, High Voltage and Insulation Technique, Power Electronics and Electrical Drives, Theory of Electrical Engineering and new Technology, Pulsed Power and Plasma and Electrical Information Measuring Technology. CEEE was initially qualified and authorized as an institution to offer Master’s, doctoral and Post-doctoral program and to grant doctor degree in the discipline of Electrical Engineering. This college has 3 national key sub-disciplines, which are Electrical Machinery and Apparatus, Power system and Its Automation and Theory of Electrical Engineering and new Technology. The discipline of Electrical Engineering and Automation was qualified as the national key discipline. 203 high qualified faculties, including 1 member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 members of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 scholar selected by national "A Thousand Talents Plan", 3 Distinguished Professors of "Cheung Kong Scholars Program" , 1 Lecture Professor of "Cheung Kong Scholars Program", 50 professors (42 PhD supervisors), and 56 associate professors are working for CEEE now. Research interests in CEEE cover the whole process of generation, transmission, consumption, test, control, distribution, and management of electrical power. In recent years, this college integrates the international developing areas of the discipline of Electrical Engineering and develops some new research fields, which are Pulsed High Magnetic Field, Magnetic Confinement Nuclear Fusion, Plasma, Pulsed Power, Accelerator, Superconductivity, Energy Storage, etc.. A good basis is formed, and some research areas have leading advantages among national Colleges and Universities. Meanwhile, they have some international impacting power. For example, CEEE applied and got the approval to take charge of the national grand scientific and technical Infrastructure project of pulsed high magnetic field experiment devices. Key Laboratory of Fusion and Advance Electromagnetic Technology of the Ministry of Education and Research center of Magnetic Confinement Nuclear Fusion of the Ministry of Education are constructed. CEEE leads the research of Magnetic Confinement Nuclear Fusion among national Colleges and Universities. Additionally, CEEE has some National, Provincial and ministerial research and teaching bases, such as National Specialized Laboratory of New-Type Electrical Machinery, Key Laboratory of Electric Power System Security and High Efficiency of Hubei Province, Key Laboratory of Power Electronic and Energy Management of ships of the Ministry of Education, Engineering Center of New-Type Electrical Machinery and Special Electrical and Magnetic Equipment of the Ministry of Education, and National Experimental and Teaching Demonstration Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Besides, CEEE has many advanced research and teaching bases, such as Research Center of Pulsed Power, Electrical Science and Technology Research Center of Superconductivity, Institute of Fusion and Plasma, Research Center of New Energy Source Generating Technology, High Voltage Technology laboratory, Electrical and Magnetic Measurement Laboratory and Undergraduate Electrical and Electronic Science and Technology Innovation Base, etc. More than 2,000 undergraduate students, nearly 600 master degree candidates, and more than 200 doctoral degree candidates are studying in CEEE now. In 2008, the research funds of CEEE exceeded 90 million RMB (about$13.24 million). Tens of national, Provincial and ministerial grant projects are under researching, and more than 500 academic papers are published each year. |
