Shang Peng, Dean of the School of Life Sciences, Elected as Corresponding Academician of IAALately, International Academy of Astronautics(IAA)has newly elected 56 Full Academicians and 44 Corresponding Academicians worldwide, many of whom will be inducted on September and October Academy Days respectively. Among newly elected members 2011 there are 7 Full Academicians and 13 Corresponding Academicians from China. Professor Shang Peng, Dean of the School of Life Sciences of NPU, has been elected as Corresponding Academician of Life Sciences Section of IAA IAA was founded in Stockholm in August, 1960. The purposes of the IAA are: to foster the development of astronautics for peaceful purposes, to recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves in a branch of science or technology related to astronautics, and to provide a program through which the membership can contribute to international endeavors and cooperation in the advancement of aerospace science, in cooperation with national science or engineering academies. Shang Peng, Ph.D., Professor, Ph.D. supervisor, Dean of the School of Life Sciences, Director of the Key Laboratory for Space Bioscience and Biotechnology, Director of the Institute of Special Environmental Biophysics, Deputy Director of Experts Group in the Discipline of SpaceBioscience of Manned Space Station Engineering Application System, member of Experts Group in the Discipline of Space Medical Science of Manned Astronautics Developmental and Strategic Research and Advance Research, member of Experts Group of Space Environmental utilization Program (Re-entry Module Science Satellites) directed by State Commission of Science and Technology for National Defense Industry. Currently, Professor Shang is researching and teaching in the discipline of space biology and biotechnology, magnetic bioscience, astronautic medical engineering, neoplasm cell bioscience and pharmacology, etc.. He won second prize of National Science and Technology Advancement Prize, top prize of Shaanxi Science and Technology Prize, and second prize of Armament Science and Technology Prize.
