From the Chairman

School of Economics & Business Administration Beijing Normal University (SEBA) was extablished in 1979, whose predecessor was the Department of Political Economy. After more than 20 years’ development, SEBA is gradually becoming the school that has comprehensive branches of learning, excellent teachers, and very high standard of teaching and scientific research, providing the nation with large amount of high-quality people. The goal of SEBA had long been to build the best college, the best subject, the best major, and cultivate the best people.

At last, please allow me express our sincerely gratitude to the people of all circles, who cares, supports and helps our school, and meanwhile, welcome to our college for learning and communication.

Overview

The Department of Political Economy is the predecessor of School of Economics & Business Administration Beijing Normal University (SEBA), which was established in 1979, and the famous economist Dayong Tao was the first dean. School of Economics Beijing Normal University was formally founded in June, 1996, later it renamed as School of Economics & Business Administration.

Currently, SEBA has completed a cultivation system from bachelor, master and doctor. She has 6 undergraduate programs, 12 Master’s programs, MBA, 5 Doctoral programs and 1 Postdoctoral center, and one of them is national key discipline, and two are Beijing’s key disciplines. School has also 15 Institutes.

More than 1300 full-time students are enrolled in our school now, including about 800 undergraduate students, 400 graduate students, about 100 foreign students. There are about 1800 continuing studied students.

SEBA has accumulated abundant teaching resources by more than 20 years’ development, and has formed a energetic teaching group with reasonable configuration, high quality and strong ability of research. Presently, there are 61 full-time teachers, including 22 professors, 25 associate professors, and 14 lecturers. 84 percent of the faculty have got a Doctor Degree or are working on it. In addition, there are more than 20 external professors.
SEBA emphasizes international academic exchange and cooperation with other universities all over the world, such as America, UN, German, Australia, Japan. Each year, the school sends faculty members to various countries and universities as guest lecturers, visiting scholars, international conference attendants, as well as master’s degree or doctorate degree pursuer. Professors abroad are invited as well to give lectures to bother faculty and student.

SEBA has established an experimental teaching center, which has collected resource from institutes, colleges, enterprises and so on. This center provides a good environment for students to improve the abilities of practice, creation and integration. SEBA has set up a data library of Economics and Business Administration, and it contains more than 14000 China and foreign books,360 kinds professional magazines.

Abundant teaching resources, integrated education system, modern teaching establishments and internationalized qualification have made SEBA become one of the best schools of Economics and Business Administration in China. SEBA is always trying to do the best to get further improvement and development.

Economics:
Training Objectives: The department aims at cultivating specialized and high-standard personnel with solid knowledge of economics theories and strong ability in methods of economic analysis and management.
Main Courses: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Political Economy, Public Finance, Econometrics, International Trade, International Finance, Development Economics, Labor Economics.

The graduates may expect to continue their education in graduate schools. The graduate may also pursue opportunities to work in the government for policy making as well as to teach and research positions in higher education institutions, or in the private sectors.

International Economics and Tradition
Training Objectives: The department aims at cultivating specialized and high-standard personnel with solid knowledge of international economic theory and means as well as being proficient at related operations. They also know the development of economic and trade of policy of main countries and regions all over the world well.
Main Courses: International Trade, International Finance, International Clearance, International Business Law, International Business Negotiations, International Transport and Insurance, International Technology Trade, English Correspondence of Business.

The graduates may expect to continue their educations in graduate schools, and are also expected to fill positions that are related to international trade, such as teaching in the university,、investigation and research.

Finance:
Training Objectives: The Department aims at cultivating specialized and high-standard personnel with solid knowledge of finance theory, policy, financial system and so on. They should also get acquainted with present situation of finance development and rules of financial markets at home and abroad.

Main Courses: Investment Bank, International Finance, Risk Investment, Insurance Studies, Financial Market, Financial Projects, Financial Econometrics, Corporate Finance, Accounting.

The graduates may expect to continue their education in graduate schools. They may work at banks 、stock exchange 、insurance agent and other finical positions. Some graduates have also taken teaching and research positions in higher education institutions.

Business Administration
Training Objectives: The Department aims at cultivating specialized and high-standard personnel, who systematically grasp the principles of management and have the basic ability to analyze and solve problems of economic management with management skills of enterprises at home and abroad.

Main Courses: Management, Marketing, Operation Management, Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, Financial Management, Management Information System, International Business Administration, Science of Organizational Behavior.

The graduates may expect to continue their education in graduate schools, to be engaged in administration in companies, financial institutes, or government organs, or to stay at school for teaching and researching.

E-commerce
Training Objectives: The Department aims at cultivating specialized and high-standard personnel, who has the specialized knowledge and skills of E-commerce management and familiar with related theory, laws, technology and rules.

Main Courses: Management, Outline of E-commerce, Law of E-commerce, Technology of E-commerce, Network Marketing, Multimedia Technology and WEB Programming, Principle and Practice of Databases, JAVA, Analysis and Development of E-commerce System.

Accounting
Training Objectives: The Department aims at cultivating specialized and high-standard personnel with initial capability of doing scientific research, who has the principles of accounting, economic and management, and who is proficient in obtaining the latest accounting information at home and abroad, carrying out accounting business operation, and utilizing the accounting software to deal with accounting work.

Cultivation
The scholastic cultivation of SEBA could be regarded as a plane right-angle coordinate system. The ladder-type education that has different cultivations focused in different phases is the vertical coordinate, the uniform of school education and outside training is the abscissa coordinate, the innovative education is the core. SEBA aims to the diathesis cultivation and individual development. Adopts multiples patterns to bring up students and takes quality supervise to ensure the normal run, then SEBA established the characteristic system for innovative human cultivation.

Graduates of SEBA have nice opportunities for further development. They work for big enterprises at home and abroad, financial institutions, administration departments under governments, research institutions, or universities, as economic analysts, administrators, consultants, research workers and teachers. Besides, there are more and more graduates choose to further their study home and abroad.

Research
SEBA has an excellent teaching group with strong ability of research. In recent years, plenty of teachers have won great prizes for successful teaching for many times. SEBA always attaches importance to hold activities for science communication, by these activities we enlarge our influence in economic field and academia. In recent years, teachers of SEBA had written 79 academic books, and over 800 research papers published in many important journals home and abroad. SEBA also hold many academic seminars on world economy, political economy and financial problems. Besides, SEBA intensifies the connection with other universities and economic institutions, participates various of academic activities actively, invites specialist to school for academic lectures, and encourages its teachers to go out for lectures and other academic activities.

International communication and cooperation
School has established strong academic and professional connections with various universities and institutions throughout the world. Some teachers of our School have been to several foreign schools to communicate on academic, as many foreign famous professors have come. For example, Nobel Prize Winner in Economics James Heckman.

IBM:
Researchers of IBM China Research Institute make the speeches for the academic lecture course of SEBA, including SSME (Service Sciences, Management and Engineering), which is a compulsory course for undergraduates. Besides, they also give lectures about frontier problems of business management for both the teachers and students.

Training of Norwegian Entrepreneurs
SEBA successfully held the China training programs for Norwegian entrepreneurs. Many specialists from different fields have given the lectures to introduce investment environment in China.

Disney’s Interns
The Disney Program adopts the approach: Domestic universities- Foreign universities- Foreign enterprises. The students of our school can go to be the interns in Disney Enterprise in USA for several months. Once they have finished the whole training courses, they will get Disney certificates, as 12 credits of Montclair State University (MSU), which works the same in our school.

International Activities of the Students
SEBA pays much attention to the opportunities of international exchange and cooperation for the students. Through many international competitions and communicative gatherings, making practices as interns for the companies abroad, and the reception for international visitors, students of SEBA had broaden their horizons, built international awareness, and become composite personnel with international competitiveness. Some of the main activities are Harvard National Model United Nations (HNBNU), Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), and Our Vision for Asian Leadership (OVAL), etc. which had significant influence on the whole campus.

Laboratory
Experimental Learning Centre of SEBA is a key laboratory of Arts of Beijing Normal University. Now we have five laboratories, and they are Economics and Administration Lab, Financial Simulation Lab, E-Commerce Lab, Economic Analysis Lab and Wireless Interactive Network Lab. Advanced computer equipments、sorts of research software and comfortable environment provide a series of favorable conditions for the teachers’ research work、students simulated investment on securities、 foreign exchange and e-commerce simulated practices.

Library
Our school also has a professional library, which holds 14,000 books home and abroad, as 359 kinds of newspapers and periodicals, in addition, there are 67 kinds of database such as OCLC，PROQUEST，JSTOR and CNKI. School annually invests sufficient funds to add sources.
