BFSU Model United Nations Association

Beijing Foreign Studies University Model United Nations Association, also known as BFSUMUN, has made progress constantly since set up in September, 2005. Now BFSUMUN has been recgniozed among members of Model United Nations of universities in Beijing. Besides, it was awarded “Three-Star Association” and “Avant Garde Association” at the 2009 Commendation Conference held by the Youth League Committee of Beijing Foreign Studies University. BFFSUMUN has provided a platform for students at BFSU to improve themselves and show their talents, which helps them to gradually move towards becoming diplomats.
 
The routine activities of BFFSUMUN are as follows:
      
1. Organize students to participate in quarterly Model United Nations conferences at home and abroad, including the Global Model United Nations Conference (GMUN) and the Harvard National Model United Nations Conference (HNMUN).
      
2. Hold the annual Beijing Foreign Studies University Model United Nations Conference, which is an intercollegiate activity in Beijing.
      
3. Give lectures on international relations and foreign affairs. Among previous lectures was one on international security given by a United Nations peacekeeping official, and another on the Middle East given by a Middle East ex-envoy.
      
4. Organize students to participate in a variety of international exchange activities, including the Student Taskforce for Advancement of Global Exchange (STAGE) held by the American Ivy League and the Northeast Asian Network (NEAN) held in Korea, helping them to widen their horizon and foster a sense of global citizenship.
      
5. Cooperate with branches of the United Nations in China like the World Food Program to help them conduct activities for the promotion and popularization of knowledge and education.
      
Since 2007, Beijing Foreign Studies University Model United Nations Conference (BFSUMUNC) has been held annually. This is the most important activity held by BFSUMUN. Owing to organizing members’ painstaking efforts, the number of participants has been increasing, and the strong academic atmosphere and the orderly arrangements of the conference have been generally praised. In 2009, more than 200 representatives from over 20 universities in Beijing were invited to take part in the BFSUMUNC. At these conferences, students have not only improved their academic ability, but also made friends with each other, which contributes to BFSUMUNC's popularity among university students.
