Shanghai University is a comprehensive university with 23 schools and one independent department. It has 68 undergraduate programs, 131 master programs, 17 engineering master programs, 1 MBA program, 35 Ph.D. programs, and 11 post-doctoral programs. It has 4 national key disciplines, 4 key disciplines and 5 special disciplines of Shanghai Municipality. In addition, it has 2 national key labs managed by Ministry of Science and Technology and Shanghai Municipal Government, 1 key research base of sports sociology approved by General Administration of Sport of China, 1 key laboratory of Ministry of Education of China and 1 key laboratory jointly supported by Ministry of Education of China and Shanghai Municipal Government, 1 engineering research center of Ministry of Education of China, 1 special discipline center of Ministry of Education of China and 2 key research bases of humanities and social sciences under Shanghai Municipal government. Shanghai University boasts research excellence among top universities in China. Shanghai University has one national university science park, one high-tech development zone, and more than 100 various institutes and research centers. During the past five years, Shanghai University ranks among the top 20 and top 30universities in China with regard to research funding and number of research papers published by faculty and students on SCI、EI、ISTP respectively. Also, the number of applications for and granting of patents is among top 20 in China.
Shanghai University is also known for its vigorous international exchanges and cooperation. So far the University has established academic links and cooperation with dozens of foreign universities, including faculty and student exchanges. Currently over 2,400 international students study on Shanghai University campuses.
Shanghai University has three campuses with an area of more than 2,000,000 square meters in total and the building area of the library is 64,000 square meters. The library has a collection of over 3.4 million volumes and over 3,600 periodicals, including 530 international periodicals, and more than 60 network and CD-ROM databases. There are many excellent teaching facilities including experimental centers and multi-media classrooms and sports facilities. The three campuses are connected by optical cable. Shanghai University has formulated a grand mid to long term strategic planning for its future development with the higher goals of carrying forward the spirit of Strive Unceasingly, building a green, civilized and information campus, and setting up an advanced talents education and science and technology innovation systems, so that Shanghai University will become a first class comprehensive research university to serve Shanghai as a modern international metropolis. |
