Course Description


The Geriatrics course focuses on an interprofessional team approach to complex issues related to aging, which span the basic sciences, clinical acumen, and profound socioeconomic issues for our society.  The course is intended to help medical students, as well as selected nursing and pharmacy students, understand the critical issues of aging, and the importance of team-based health care for geriatric patients in long term care facilities.


This course is placed in the curriculum at the mid-point of the third year, which is a unique teachable moment where students can benefit from focused instruction on key topics which are commonly encountered during the core clerkships.


The Geriatrics course is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and experience to recognize and approach common problems in older adults in inpatient and outpatient settings as well as in the nursing home.


Degree Awarded

On completing the requirements of the teaching program and passing the graduation examinations successfully, international medical undergraduates will be granted a graduation certificate and conferred a medical degree by Huazhong University of Science and Technology if they meet the degree regulations of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The English copy of the degree will state MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery).

Career 

After obtaining MBBS Degree, the graduates can apply to take the medical licensing examination in the medical council in order to get registered and practice medicine. According to the regulations in different countries, the students may need to do the degree accreditation first. A MBBS degree holder can find jobs in government as well as private hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities. Except this, one can also start his own clinic or pursue study for master's degree.

Photocopy of notarized foreigner physical examination record (for durations of study over 6 months)


2. Photocopy of valid passport 

With name, passport number & expiration date, and photo included


3. Passport photo 

A recent passport-sized photo of the applicant


4. Bachelor's degree diploma 

Graduation certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization.


5. Letter of recommendation 

From professor or associate professor or equivalents


6. Undergraduate school transcript


7. Certificate of Bank Saving


8. Certificate of No-criminal Record


9. Certificate of P.E. Record for Foreigners
