Visa and Residence Permit

Application for Visa (Residence Permit):

1. Get on the website of Shanghai Maritime University and download the Application Form for Foreign Students at Shanghai Maritime University.
2. Get on the website of Shanghai Maritime University and download the Physical Examination Report for Foreigners, and go through the physical examination in the state and public hospitals of your country.
3. Mail all the related materials such as the filledtheApplication Form for Foreign Students at Shanghai Maritime University, your final degree certificate, copy of your passport and three photos (copy photo sized) to Room 406, Foreign Language Department, No. 1550 Shanghai Pudong Avenue, and the zip code is 200135.
4. After the school checks the application materials,Admission Notice and JW202 Form will be mailed to you.
5. With Admission Notice, JW202 Form, and the Physical Examination Report for Foreigners, you should go to the local Chinese Embassy to apply for X Visa, which is Students Visa.
6. Those students who have entered China by other types of visa must fill in the Application Form for Foreign Students at Shanghai Maritime University. After the school checks the materials, Admission Notice, The Application Letter for Foreign Students, and JW202 Form will be given.
 
Application and Extension of Residence Permit

1. The foreign students who entered China by X Visa or any other type of visa need to apply for residence permit in the following 30 days after your entry.
2. Place to apply: Exit-Entry Bureau of Shanghai Public Security Bureau will accept your application for visa and residence permit. It costs about 400 RMB (for one year) to apply, and takes 5 workdays.

3. Documents needed for residence permit application:
(1) Valid passport
(2) one 2-inch photo (passport-sized)
(3) Admission Notice of SMU
(4) JW202 Form
(5) The Introduction Letter for Foreign Students (provided by SMU)
(6) The Physical Examination Report for Foreigners (by Shanghai Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, International Travel Healthcare Center)
(7) The Temporary Accommodation Registration Form for Foreigners
4. Those who have extended their study in SMU need to again apply to the school for another The Introduction Letter for Foreign Students, and go through the residence permit extension procedures at the address above, with the original of passport, one 2-inch photo, The Application Letter for Foreign Students, The Physical Examination Report for Foreigners, The Temporary Accommodation Registration Form for Foreigners.
