The College of Resources and Environment, developed from 2 specialties of Agricultural Resources & Environment, and Environmental Science from Department of Agronomy, was founded in August 2005 as a result of the development of discipline and the university’s construction. At present, there are 4 teaching and research offices (plant nutrition, land resources, environmental science, and environmental engineering), 2 research institutes (agricultural ecosystem & environment health institute, and soil and fertilizer institute), and 1 experimental center in the college. The college is accredited to offer one master degree spot of plant nutrition, 3 specialties for 4-year students (Agricultural Resources & Environment, Environmental science, and Environmental Engineering), and 2 specialties for 2-year students (Agricultural Resources & Environment, and Land Resources Management). Totally there are more than 690 fulltime students now in the college.
Our teaching staff are abundant and reasonably structured. Among the faculty group of 41, there are 32 teachers of which 4 are Ph.D supervisors, 10 are supervisors of master degree; 7 are professors, 7 are associate professors; 18 are doctors and 16 are masters.
Many teachers have been awarded Excellent Teaching Quality prizes and Liuhe prizes. They have established the high-quality curriculum of Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer, one A-level curriculum and 2 B-level curriculums. In addition, the passing rates of College English Test Band 4 and Band 6, graduate entrance examination and employment of the students in the college have always been higher than most of other colleges in the university.
The college is influential in the field of agricultural resources and environmental science. In the recent years, the college has undertaken more than 20 scientific research projects of our country or our province, among which the topic of Long-term Fertilizer Localization Experimental Research began in 1978 and was the earliest among the counterpart items. We are characteristic in water-free crops nutrition and physiology, vegetable nutrition and applying fertilizer, new fertilizer development, environment health and pollution repairing, heavy metal government, land fertilizing, conservation of water and soil and desertification government, agricultural remote sensing and land utilization. More than 10 monographs and translations have been published, more than 150 papers have been published in magazines home and abroad, more than 10 national and provincial (ministerial) research achievements have been got, and 4 invention patents in our country have been acquired.
The college emphasizes on foreign academic exchanges and cooperation. We have invited experts from China Agricultural University and Shandong Agricultural University to give lectures in the university, and have cooperated with Agricultural Bureau of Shouguang City, Chengyang Environmental Protection Bureau of Qingdao, Qingdao Kaitou Shuangyuan water service limited company to establish practice base for teaching and scientific research. As a result, the students' practice skills have been greatly improved and the college has also widened our influences.
The college is a new college with new image and all the teaching and administrative staff will keep reforming and innovating to improve our educational level and make our college more characteristic and influential.
