Fujian Medical UniversityFujian Medical University is located in Fuzhou, the capital city of Fujian Province. It serves as a center for teaching, research, treatment, and prevention, and provides other social services. It was founded formerly as Fujian Provincial Medical School in 1937, with its name changed into Fujian Medical College in 1982. In April 1996 it adopted its present name. Currently FMU has two campuses in Shangjie and Taijiang, with a total land area of about 87 hectares and a building area of 379,000 square meters.

Currently, FMU has a total number of more than 20,000 full-time students, including approximately 2,000 postgraduates, and 10,000 undergraduates. It is also entitled to recruit students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and students from foreign countries for its undergraduate programs.
Facilities
Achievements There is a total number of 5,398 faculty, staff members and medical personnel in the University. Of the 835 full-time teachers, 58% have possessed master's degrees, and 55.1% the title of associate professor or full professor. Also FMU attached great importance to academic research. It hosts 1 post-doctor clinical research center, 65 research institutions, 2 provincial "Project 211" key disciplines, 13 provincial key disciplines, 8 disciplines of prior development designated by Fujian Provincial Department of Science and Technology, 6 key disciplines at school level, 6 provincial key medical specialties, 5 provincial leading specialties with medical characteristics and 3 key laboratories designated by Fujian Province, which have undertaken great scientific tasks, and made remarkable achievements. Since 2001, more than 100 scientific research programs have been rewarded, over 5,500 papers published, with 86 of them recorded in SCI, and 45 academic works issued as well. The University Library, as the main medical library of Fujian province, holds an area of 25,233 square meters and a collection of 1, 53 million volumes.
International Exchange The University has developed collaborative relationships for scientific research and talents training with some universities and medical research institutes from the United States, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Australia, and Canada and so on. In the past 5 years, more than 160 groups, as well as 700 people from the United States, Japan, etc. have visited the University, given lectures and carried out other academic activities. Over 20 overseas alumni have taken posts in colleges, departments or research institutes of FMU, with 110 experts and alumni engaged as its guest professors.
Future Development At present, FMU has received numerous praises and honors from the society and the general public. Looking forward to its future, with the motto of "diligence, preciseness, practicality, and innovation", the University attempts to improve its role as a key provincial medical university by focusing on its undergraduate education, promoting graduate education and other forms of medical education, and coordinating medical science with other disciplines, aims to fulfill its roles as a teaching and research-oriented medical center, a prevention center, and a major base for cultivating medical talents on the west coast of the Taiwan straits, and endeavors to rank itself among top medical universities. |
