School of Economics and Commerce

School of Economics and Commerce (EC) of SCUT locates in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center. At present, EC consists of 7 disciplines, namely the Department of Economics, the Department of Finance, the Department of International Economics and Commerce, the Department of E-commerce, the Department of Logistics Engineering, the Department of Tourism and Hospitality, and the Department of Exhibition Economy and Management. EC has a full-fledged education system for producing undergraduates, postgraduates on master's and doctoral programs, offering 7 bachelor programs in accord with the above disciplines and 8 master programs, including 2 Engineering master programs on Project Management and on Logistics, as well as 2 Ph.D. programs on Finance Engineering and Economic Analysis, and on Logistics Engineering and Management. EC has an enrollment of full-time 3,000 undergraduates, and 300 postgraduate candidates seeking master degree and doctor degree.
 
EC boasts a good number of famous scientists and professors. Its faculty includes 105 scholars and teachers, 66.7% of whom bear a Ph.D. Among them, there are 15 professors, 29 associate professors, 6 doctoral advisors, and 34 master supervisors. Moreover, it has 2 professors of “Program　for　New　Century　Excellent　Talents　in　University Supported by State Ministry of Education”. EC also has invited many famous scholars specially as the lecture or part-time professors at home and from abroad. In resent 3 years, EC has been responsible for over 100 projects, including more than 30 national and provincial projects.
 
EC possesses its own independent teaching office block which is well-equipped with Reference Room containing Chinese-Foreign references. EC pays much attention to the construction of the laboratories and research institutes with 10 million Yuan investment. Now, it has built 12 professional laboratories, and 8 institutes. Among them, the “Finance Engineering Research Center of SCUT”, co-built with Guangdong Banking Bureau, has been authorized the key research base on humanity and social science of Guangdong Province. During the second construction program of “985 Project”, EC has invested 1,000,000 Yuan to build the two scientific and technological innovation platforms, namely “Science and Technology on Modern Logistics”, and “Knowledge Management and Technological Innovation”.
 
EC emphasizes on academy and communication. It has held high-level academic communication activities successfully, such as “Guangzhou (Xiao Guwei Island) Finance Forum”, “Sino-American Tourism Development Forum”, and so on. Every term, EC will invite well –known scholars in the world to give lectures. At present, it has established a close communication and cooperation with some famous universities and colleges in America, Japan, Western-Europe, and Australia. Meanwhile, EC has cooperated with the local economic departments and financial institutes closely.
