On the morning of June 25, 2014 South China University of Technology (SCUT) Graduation Ceremony was held in Haili Recreation and Sports Center in Wushan Campus. DU Xiaoming, Chairperson of University Affairs Committee of SCUT, WANG Yingjun, President of SCUT, PENG Xinyi, Executive Vice President of SCUT, Vice Presidents LIU Qijin, QIU Xueqing, ZHU Min and DANG Zhi, LI Licheng, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and HUANG Ping, a national renowned teacher, together with leaders from different departments and schools, attended the ceremony. Vice President ZHANG Zhen-gang served as the host of the ceremony.
WANG Yingjun expressed her sincere hopes to the graduates in the graduation speech. She said that the essence of reform was innovation, and the graduate students should posess the quality of innovation and shoulder the responsibilities. 1/4 of her speech was concerned about the achievements made by the graduate students, trying to tell them that they showed the spirits of SCUT and they were all excellent who made the alma mater proud. WANG encouraged the students wth the following suggestions. Firstly, persistence would help one move forward. Secondly, practice and concentration would lead the way to success. Thirdly, inclusion would help us be positive and make more progresses.
When WANG was conducting the graduation speech, a touching commemorative ppt was played at the same time about the campus life of the graduates. Both students and teachers in the presence raised their cameras to take photographs of those precious pictures showed in the screen.
At the ceremony, DU Xiaoming gave awards to the western volunteer service program graduates and the excellent national defense students. CHEN Yu, an undergraduate student representative made a speech about her college days in the ceremony. After singing The song of SCUT, the graduation ceremony came to a successful end.
It was reported that the number of graduate students of SCUT in 2014 reached more than 9,600. The employment rate of the undergraduate students was 90.44% while that of the graduate students was 90.80% by the end of June. And there were 14 students joined the western volunteer service program.
