Computer ScienceThe history of College of Computer Science (CCS) can be dated back to 1958 when computer science as an undergraduate program was provided by Sichuan University. In 1981, the Department of Computer Science was established, and in 1998 the College of Computer Science was established. In May 2005, the College of Software Engineering merged with the College of Computer Science to integrate the teaching and research resources of both colleges. Since its inception, College of Computer Science has grown in size and strength. The College is currently organized into 3 departments: Department of Computer Science and Technology, Department of Computer Network and Communication and Department of Computer Engineering. The College has a competent teaching force. It has a current total teaching faculty of 149, among whom 23 are professors, 58 associate professors, 1 with the title of “Distinguished Professor”, 11 tutors of doctor students, 6 provincial Academic and Technological Leaders. At present, CCS has a first-class discipline on Computer Science and Technology to grant Doctor’s degree, a second-class discipline on Computer Application Technology to grant Doctor’s degree, a key discipline on Computer Science and Technology at the provincial level, 3 PhD programs, 4 Master programs, and a post-doctor station. Besides, it has a Modern Traffic Control System Research Center, a Key Laboratory of Synthetic Vision Graphics and Image Science for National Defense, a Key laboratory of Intelligent System of Sichuan Province and a Key Laboratory of Knowledge Engineering and Network Intelligence of Sichuan Province.
CCS offers two bachelor programs to the students: Computer Science & Technology and Network Engineering. Now CCS has over 1,900 undergraduate students and about 800 graduate students. |
