About School
Established in 1920, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) has remained as one of the key universities supported by the Chinese central government. HIT was designated in 1996 as one of the first national leading universities to be included in“Project 211” for preferential support, and became one of the top nine national leading universities in China to be included in “Project 985”in 1999. These nine universities later became the C9 League in 2009 which is referred to as the Chinese equivalent of the US Ivy League. The C9 League was formed to promote more resources sharing, cooperative training, and joint research projects among the best universities in China.
Approved by the Ministry of Education, Harbin Institute of Technology Shenzhen (HITSZ) was co-founded by HIT and Shenzhen Government in 2002. In the last 12 years, HITSZ has developed a complete system for full-time graduate education while we also offer programs for part-time students and international students. As an integral part of HIT, HITSZ is committed to be a research-oriented institution through exploration of high education reform and internationalization. We strive to be an international institution deeply rooted in Shenzhen and serving the nation.
Facilities and Faculty
HITSZ has first class teaching facilities as well as an excellent faculty team. Among all the full time faculty members in HITSZ, 100% are doctoral degree holders, 67% have either studied or lived abroad, 60% are entitled “High Level Talents of Shenzhen”, 10 professors have been accepted by the national “Recruitment Program of Global Experts”, and 14 professors were entitled “Excellent Talents of the New Century” by the Ministry of Education. There are about 3000 master and doctoral candidates on campus now. In HITSZ, all major courses are taught in English or bilingually in English and Chinese with original English textbooks.
Taking good advantage of the disciplinary and faculty strengths in HIT, HITSZ develops its fundamental scientific research and application research to promote regional economic development, pushes forward education of innovative graduates, and provides diversified consulting services in Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and the Pan Pearl-River-Delta region.
Programs and Schools
HITSZ adopts an innovative approach in our curriculum design. Interdisciplinary studies were promoted covering 22 master and PhD programs within 7 schools in the areas of Computer Science and Technology, Electronic and Information Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning and Management, Material Science and Engineering, and Natural Sciences and Humanities. There are more than 20 research centers and several laboratories at national and provincial level which serve as basic teaching and research units. Joint laboratories with famous international universities and research institutions were set in recent years.
