Long History
Two Campus
The university consists of two parts---the main campus and the southern campus covering entirely an area of 860000 square meters. Its library has a collection of 840000 volumes and 30000 kinds of periodical and journals as well as e-journals. It is equipped with a campus computer network, which is also a center in Anhui for sharing biological and medical information across the nation on Internet. The library has broad relations with other libraries, schools and research institutions both at home and abroad.
Close Links with Higher Institutions Abroad
The university has built up close links with other higher institutions in some European countries, America and Japan. The establishment of research centers is the result of collaborations with Harvard University and Mayo Clinic in the USA, Sino-Canada Children Foundation, Karolinska Medical Institute in Sweden and Osnabruck University of Applied Sciences in Germany respectively.
![]() Good Location Hefei is the capital. The topography in Anhui Province is high in the southwest and low in the northeast. Mountains and hills make up two thirds of the total area. The climate belongs to semi-humid monsoon of warm temperate and subtropical humid monsoon. Anhui Province has abundant tourist resources with beautiful landscape, many places of historic interest, and rich folk customs. The most famous scenic wonders include Mt.Huangshan, Mt.Jiuhua, Mt.Tianzhu, Mt.Langya, and Mt.Qiyun, all of which are national scenic spots. As the capital of Anhui Province and hometown of the famous honest and upright official in Chinese history---Bao Zheng, Hefei features a landscape of half mountain and half lake. Hefei is known as “a modern garden city and “the most suitable city for people to live in.” It is the among the first three cities winning the honorable title of “city of gardens and parks.” The city’s Belt Park looks like a green necklace, which “ embraces both the old town and the new urban developments.” The Shushan Lake, lying at the foot of the Dashu Hill, looks like a green bright pearl. Hefei Wildlife Field, characterized by “ naturalness, wildness and lingering charm of forest,” has become a space shared by men and animals. On Mt.Zipeng, one can not only hear the soughing of the wind flowing through the pines, but also see flocks of auspicious birds. With blue waves rippling in its immense waters, the Chaohu is a magnificent lake of myriad scenes. Hefei is a city of science and education and one of the four major bases of scientific research and education of the nation. It is the seat of more than 200 institutions of scientific research including the Hefei Matter Research Institute of ChineseAcademyofSciencesas well as University of Science & Technology of China, the PLA Electronic Engineering Institute, and over 30 other institutions of higher learning. The city boasts nearly 200,000 scientific and technical personnel. In terms of the intellectual resources,Hefeiis at the head of the list compared with cities of the same scale in China.
