School of Jet PropulsionSchool of Jet Propulsion, originally named Department of Jet Propulsion, was one of the two departments that established in 1952 when BUAA was founded. In October 2002, in order to push on the development of the aviation propulsion technology and the power engineering, adapt to the new subject layout of BUAA, fit into the University-School-Department-Research Groups four class management, established the School of Jet Propulsion on the basis of Department of Jet Propulsion. School of Jet Propulsion has four departments, one national key laboratory. They are: Department of Aviation Propulsion, Department of Fluid Machinery, Department of Engineering Thermophysics, Department of Thermal Engineering and the National Key Laboratory on Aero-Engines. Through 50 years construction, our school has developed from one single discipline of aero-engine for undergraduate students into a multi-discipline institute offering PhD, MSc and BSc degree study. The PhD program includes: Aerospace Propulsion Theory and Engineering, Fluid Machinery, Engineering Thermophysics, Thermal Engineering, Turbomachinery & Engineering, Utilization of Transport Facilities. The Aerospace Propulsion Theory and Engineering was appraised as the national key discipline and ranked No.1 in the appraisal within the subject of Aerospace Science and Technology. The MSc program is the same as its PhD counterpart with one extra: Aquatic Acoustics Engineering. The BSc program includes: Power Engineering of Flight Vehicles, Thermal Energy & Power Engineering, Traffic & Transportation Engineering. Within the 50 years, more than 5000 undergraduates and over 1200 postgraduate students graduated from our school, and among them there are more than 200 doctorial students. The scientific research has also gained a great achievement since China¡¯s reform and opening up to the outside world, Our school has been awarded 11 National Prizes, among them are the First Prize of National Technique Invention, First Prize of National Science &Technology Progressing. There are 82 faculty members within the School and among them 32 are professors and 34 are associate professors and 65% of faculty members have PhD degrees. Our school has two academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, two young professors were awarded the National Outstanding Youth Fund, one Yangtze River scholar (or named Specially Appointed Professor). In recent years, School of Jet Propulsion has been enjoying a great progress in research and the research fund jumps from 12 millions in the year of 1999 to 45 millions in the year of 2003. The School of Jet Propulsion is, as always, doing its best to offer students the first-class education and to carry out leading-edge scientific research related to various aspects of jet propulsion technology. We sincerely encourage the younger generation joining us and devoting themselves to the development of science and technology of jet propulsion, and make great contributions to the progress of China's Aero-Engine industry. |
