Department of Applied Mathematics

The Department of Applied Mathematics of SHUFE was founded in August 2000. Through the years, thanks to the painstaking efforts and hard working the Department has grown up rapidly with the remarkable successes in all the aspects of science research, teaching and personnel training. It has gradually formed its distinguishing economical and financial characteristics by referring to the Department of Mathematics at  London College of Politics and Economics,  its development are also greatly promoted thanks to the surroundings of Shanghai city and SHUFE as well.

As a young faculty, the Department has grown into a well-balanced team in age and specialties, with middle-aged and younger members as its core. The Department currrently comprises 35 faculty (of which 26 are with doctorial degree) and 5 staff members. Among the faculty members there are 6 professors ( three of them are doctoral supervisors) and 17 associate professors.

The Department offers two 4-year undergraduate programs majoring in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and Information and Computational Science. The following is a list of the majoring curriculums:  Mathematical Analysis, Advanced Algebra, Probability Theory, Mathematical Statistics, Mathematical  Modeling, Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Operational Research, Control Theory, C Language, Database, Financial Derivatives, Actuary, Principle of Accounting, Financial Mathematics et.c . Our graduates, known for their sound foundation, strictness and broad scope as well as their economical and financial background, are welcome at all posts and have grown up to be the mainstays. With a high employment rate 98%,  most of our graduates are working with financial sectors such as bank, stock exchange, foreign trade and foundation organizations.

The Department offers three Master programs majoring in Operational Research and Control Theory, Probability Theory and Statistics,  and Applied Mathematics. Among the graduated M.Sc’s are a group of employees working mainly in the financial sectors.

Currently, the Department  co-operates a Doctorial degree program with the College of Finance at SHUFE, with the major in Financial Mathematics and Financial Egineering in the fields of Pricing Theory of Financial Derivatives, the Theory of  Investment and Computational Finance.

A great number of articles by the faculty have been published in international journals which were indexed as SCI, EI,  and some top Chinese academic journals. 4 research projects of the Department have been supported by NSF of China.
