Shihezi Economy



Shihezi city is located at the foot of Tianshan Mountain in the north, being the economic and cultural center of production and construction corps in Xinjiang. In recent years, with more and more efforts being made to attract investment from overseas, a group of enterprises with large scope of investment and strong chain effect have entered Shihezi city one after another. 


Economic Features  


Since 2006, there have been seven programs established in Shihezi - each with an investment of over RMB 100 million. Zhejiang Xiongfeng Group was contracted to invest RMB 3.8 billion (utilized investment amounted to RMB 700 million) to construct a shuttleless loom program. In addition, Jiangsu Huafang Group was contracted to invest RMB 1.5 billion in a textile program. Phase?of the program commenced operations in September 2006. 


In 2011, Shihezi’s GDP totaled RMB 24.33 billion – a growth of 15.3% from the year before. It accounted for 3.7% of Xinjiang’s total.

In 2011, foreign-trade value soared 41.5% year-on-year to US$851.19 million. Within this figure, export value totaled US$828.12 million and import value amounted to US$23.07 million. Tomato sauce, citric acid, PVC, solid wood doors, worsted cloth and building materials are Shihezi’s main export goods. Additionally, EU countries, ASEAN countries, Kazakhstan and Russia are the city’s most important trading partners.


Currently, Shihezi has established food processing, pharmaceuticals, textiles, agricultural equipment manufacturing, chemicals, mining, building materials and energy production as its pillar industries. Representative enterprises include Yurun Group, Zhejiang Xiongfeng Group, Jiangsu Huafang Group, Wahaha, wantwant, Yili Group, Guizhou Aviation Cotton Picker Factory and Yanjing Beer Group, etc.
