Introduction to Yunnan University of Finance and Economics
YUFE in Brief
Funded in 1951, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics (YUFE) is a multi-disciplinary university. It is not only strong in economics, management but also offers programs in philosophy, liberal arts, laws, natural science and engineering. In 1995, YUFE was designated as one of the key provincial institutions of higher learning by the Yunnan Provincial Government. In 2008, YUFE was approved as one of the newly added universities which will be entitled to offer Doctorate degrees.
Located in the northern part of “Eternal Spring City” Kunming, YUFE occupies an area of 68 hectares. The university library hosts a book collection of 1,600,000 volumes. The multi-functional gymnasium and the university network spreading over classrooms, offices, and students’ dormitories have created a pleasant and convenient environment for the teachers and students.
With 19 schools and 3 departments, YUFE offers bachelor’s degrees in 32 specialties and has 34 postgraduate programs. YUFE has over 16,000 full time undergraduate and graduate students. The total number of students is greater than 35,000 including part-time students, overseas students and adult students. The teaching force of YUFE consists of over 1,400 faculty members including over 900 full-time lectures. Among them, there are almost 400 professors or associate professors. In addition to teaching, academic research also plays a key role in the university YUFE has set up more than 40 research centers. Since 2005, over 5,000 academic papers were published and over 500 research projects were carried out by teachers in YUFE.
Aiming at promoting the globalization of higher education and academic research, YUFE has established close links with over 70 universities or educational agents in nearly 30 countries such as Vietnam, Japan, Australia, Thailand, USA, UK, and France. There are more than 20 foreign teachers and over 500 long-term and short-term overseas students are teaching and studying in YUFE each year. In order to introduce up-to-date information about Chinese economy and society, a set of special courses taught in English is introduced to overseas students. YUFE also setup ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). School to help overseas students in regard to their daily life and study. Moreover, the three joint education programs cooperating with Chairs Sturt University, Keuka College, and University of Greenwich were officially approved by the Academic Committee of the State Council and enrolled more than 2500 students.
