SICAS Interview with Mr. Luan Shuwen--Dean of the School of Foreign Studies of China University of Petroleum (Huadong) (CUP)
Characteristic of efficiency, accuracy and safety, SICAS has established reliable partnerships with more than 200 first-rate universities in China, including China University of Petroleum (Huadong). On June 8, 2012, SICAS CEO Ms Zhanglu and SICAS School Liaison Department staff members met with Mr. Luan Shuwen--Dean of the School of Foreign Studies of CUP (Huadong), during which he accepted an exclusive SICAS interview.
What follows is a transcript of the conversation which has been slightly condensed, and edited for clarity:
Host: First of all, thank you obviously for your time, Mr. Luan. Could you please give us a brief introduction of CUP (Huaong).
Mr. Luan: Sure. CUP (Huadong), a state key comprehensive university under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Education, consists of two campuses. One is in the city of Dongying, where the second largest oil field of China is located, and the other one is in the city of Qingdao, a beautiful coastal city with diverse culture and International population. It covers an extensive range of disciplines among which petroleum disciplines reach the world's first-class level. Nowadays it is attracting an increasingly growing number of International students worldwide.
Host: What do you think appeal to foreign students?
Mr. Luan: CUP (Huaong) is one of the national "211 Project" universities and a teaching and research university with its focus on engineering and multiple disciplines coordinately developed. It offers English-medium Petroleum Engineering. And it is known as “cradle of the talents in petroleum”. Besides, as an international port, Qingdao has favourable geographical location. In addition, there are many enterprises providing international students opportunities for internship or employment. For example, Shandong Shtar Science and Technology Group is, as a backbone enterprise of the university, a state high-tech enterprise, and also a pilot test base and industrial test base for petroleum and petrochemical industries.
Host: Ah, great! What about programs offered at CUP (Huadong)?
Mr. Luan: At present, it is officially authorized by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of China to offer various programs to International students, including 53 undergraduate programs, 99 postgraduate programs, 32 doctoral programs as well as non-degree programs for learning Chinese language and culture.
Host: Wonderful! Are there any English-medium programs?
Mr. Luan: Of course yes. Bachelor's degree program Petroleum Engineering is provided specially for those who worry about language barrier. It is undoubtedly deserves No.1 in China. Graduates of CUP are playing important positions in most of the worldwide top-ranked petroleum corporation, and thus CUP is famous for “cradle of the talents in petroleum”.
