China University of Petroleum (CUP) is a national key comprehensive university under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education of PRC and also one of the national "211 Project" universities. History of China University of Petroleum
Tracing back the history of the university, at the beginning of the founding of New China in 1953, petroleum resources were urgently needed for national economic construction and professional talents were urgently needed for the development of petroleum industry. Under such circumstances, based on the Department of Petroleum Engineering of Tsinghua University, the first petroleum institution of higher learning in New China -- Beijing Institute of Petroleum, one of the eight famous universities in Beijing at that time, was established by gathering the relevant faculty and educational conditions of Peking University, Tianjin University, Dalian Institute of Technology and other famous universities.
In October 1960, the university was identified as a national key university. In 1969, the university moved to Dongying, Shandong Province, where Shengli Oil Field is located, and was renamed East China Petroleum Institute.
The university has 5 national key disciplines, including mineral resource prospecting and exploration, oil-gas well engineering, oil-gas field development engineering, chemical technology, oil-gas storage and transportation engineering, and 2 national key (educating) disciplines, including earth detection and information technology, and industrial catalysis. Engineering, chemistry, material science, earth science and computer science are the ESI top 1% global disciplines.
The school has a team of teachers with high quality, superb professional skills and vitality.There are more than 1700 teachers, including more than 1000 professors and associate professors, 267 doctoral supervisors.The university has formed its own educating style since its establishment 60 years ago. The teaching strength and level have improved a lot. In the new period, the university insists on the characteristic, open and harmonious development.

Here, I would like to share with you the profound foundation, glorious history and beautiful prospect of China University of Petroleum.
This is a respectable university.In the 67 years since its establishment, the founding fathers and successive builders of the University have responded to the needs of the country by exploring their way through hardships and starting their own business in the suburbs of Beijing, the Dongying, salt flats and mudflats in Huangdao, thus finding a way of arduous exploration and outstanding contributions.
This is a university pursuing excellence.Over the past 67 years, the university has cultivated more than 300,000 outstanding talents, including more than 20 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as a large number of leading figures and engineering technical backbone in the petroleum and petrochemical industry. Teachers and students of the University have participated in almost all oil, gas and petrochemical projects in China, making great contributions to the petroleum industry of China from scratch and from big to strong. It is recognized as "The Huangpu Military Academy in the petroleum field".
