Introduction to South China University of Technology
South China University of Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is located in the historic city of Guangzhou in southern China and is one of the first national civilized campuses. The campus is divided into three campuses: Wushan Campus is located in Shipai University District, Tianhe District, Guangzhou; University Town Campus is located in Guangzhou University Town, Panyu District; the newly built Guangzhou International Campus is a state-level campus, a key project of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangdong Province and Guangzhou, and is located in the South bank core area of the New City, Panyu District. Located in the "Belt and Road" super gateway city, "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" important transportation hub, Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong science and technology innovation corridor, and Guangzhou University Town across the bank. The three campuses complement each other, which is an ideal place for many students to study.
The school has a long history, starting from the first Class A Industrial School of Guangdong Province, founded in 1918, and formally established in 1952, is one of the "four major engineering colleges" in New China, and can be a pathfinder for China's higher engineering education. In 1960, the university was rated as the advanced unit of China's culture and Education front, and became a national key university in the same year. In 1981, it became the first doctoral and master's degree granting institution in China. In 1995, it entered the ranks of China's key universities for the 21st century (" 211 Project "). In 2001, it entered the ranks of China's high-level University construction (" 985 Project "). In recent years, the university has developed rapidly. Since 2012, it has entered the top 500 of the "Academic Ranking of World Universities" in soft subjects, and since then, it has entered the top 100 every two years, ranking 201-300 in 2018, and has successfully been selected as A Class A university in China's "Double first-class" construction. The university has now fully entered the internationally recognized "Four Global University rankings", ranking firmly in the ranks of China's first-class university and world famous university.
After 66 years of construction and development, South China University of Technology has become a comprehensive research-oriented university with a strong focus on engineering, a combination of science, technology and medicine, and a coordinated development of management, economics, liberal arts, law and medicine. The university has 32 faculties, with 31 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 39 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, 5 categories of doctoral degrees in engineering and 23 categories of master's degrees authorized for professional degrees. The university has strong discipline strength, and a total of 9 discipline fields have entered the top 1% of ESI global ranking, among which 4 discipline fields, engineering, materials chemistry, chemistry and agricultural science, have entered the top 1‰ of ESI global ranking, becoming the international top discipline with important influence, and the number of selected universities in China ranks fifth. The school has good operating conditions, excellent teaching environment, rigorous academic research, and adheres to the training goals of high-quality, "three creative types (innovation, creation, entrepreneurship)" and top-notch innovative talents with international undertakings. Since its establishment, the university has trained more than 400,000 students of various types in higher education, and a large number of graduates have become the backbone of science and technology in China, famous entrepreneurs and leading cadres. The school began to recruit international students in the 1960s, and established the School of International Education in 2004, training a total of 18,385 international students, of which 55% are degree students. At present, there are 2,425 international students, accounting for 56% of the degree students, from 122 countries. The university has been awarded the first batch of national demonstration bases for studying in China and the first batch of universities with quality certification for studying in China. All the university's majors are open to international students, and relying on the university's superior disciplines and majors, to build the characteristics and brand of the needs of international students, now a total of 16 English majors, providing more than 300 English courses, has formed a relatively complete international student training system. The school has cultivated outstanding international students constantly emerging, many of whom have published high-impact factor papers in SCI journals, served as senior officials in the host country and senior executives in large enterprises. The school attaches great importance to the integration of diverse cultures, and takes the "Belt and Road" construction as an opportunity to actively promote the exchange and mutual learning of Chinese and foreign cultures, and promote the collision of diverse cultures and the integration of ideas. It has established long-term cooperative relations with more than 200 foreign universities and research institutions. These include the joint construction of three Confucius Institutes with Lancaster University in the United Kingdom, the University of Idaho in the United States, as well as the German Audi Group, the Municipal Government of Ingolstadt and the Technical University of Ingolstadt.
